The chronograph as is in full working order starting, stopping and resetting to ‘0’. The watch was just serviced by our watchmaker, thus in excellent running condition, keeping accurate time. (+300°; +4s/d). The watch comes from a collector in Rome, Italy.
The chronomatic group had produced 100 prototypes of its automatic chronographs by fall, 1968, with Heuer and Breitling each allotted 40 of these pieces, Hamilton-Buren receiving 10. (Dubois-Depraz used the remaining 10 prototypes for testing and development). These first 100 pieces were different from the standard production call 11 for a dotted finishing of the mainplate and some other little important differences.
This Hamilton prototype, one of 5 shown in Basel, 1969, has a different dial with ‘Fontainbleau’logo, different hands and 1 of the 100 cal 11 prototype dotted finish calibres, making it an important piece of horological history.
